Samsung Research America
Jan 2014 to July 2015
As a backend engineer at Mapzen (Part of Samsung Research America) I contributed to the vector tile service that powered the android map app & the tangram projects and the open source geocoder project called Pelias, which helps make geographic data easily searchable.
Worked with large-scale spatial datasets and built public-facing APIs.
Worked towards getting the most value out of the increasing amount of open data available to us.
Worked with Elasticsearch to retrieve data efficiently, while yielding the most relevant results.
Investigated & implemented NLP techniques into the geocoder’s search function to enhance user experience.
I was a founding member of a budding open-source community around our geocoding solution.
Played the role of an ambassador of open-source geocoding and open data by writing and speaking publicly about our projects at FOSS4GNA, SOTM-US
